An English Pale Ale, Bitter today is the traditional English pub cask Ale. Strength is indicated by ordinary, best or extra special bitter. Today, in North America, it’s a “session beer” due to its drinkability and low alcohol content.
Butler's Bitter, which was developed as a celebration beer for the bicentennial of the War of 1812, is modern take on the traditional bitters style of beer and is in fact based on traditional recipes that were used in the 1800s by English brewers. A well-balanced beer with caramel malts and English hops, it has proven to be a palate pleaser in the competitive arena on a number of occasions.
