Vodka is a clear colourless liquid containing alcohol and is nearly devoid of flavour… But is that it? Making vodka can be a simple process and a simple product if you have the right piece of technology. It requires near azeotropic distillation to separate the volatile flavour compounds and make a quality vodka. This spirit is part of our curriculum and to the educational experience in the Teaching Distillery. The distillation of grains to over 96% ABV in a specialized still allows for the high degree of purity in the distillation process and an interesting experience for the students to use an automated still – using distinct parameters in how to program this type of distillation.
